Express Yourself is a multi-faceted Beauty Salon located in New Jersey. Our new version of the original sign used many of the components of the original including size and style. The customer insisted on using the incised V-groove gilded lettering as was used in the original weather damaged wooden sign we replaced. HDU was chosen as the replacement material because of its exceptional carving and smoothing capabilities. These capabilities are essential in the successful application of gold leaf as imperfections will be greatly amplified by the ultra thin sheets of gold leaf. Painstaking and time-consuming attention to detail is essential in the preparation phase. The substrate must be completely smooth before application of the leaf. all imperfections are greatly emphasized due to the ultra thin sheets of gold. This in turn can substantially increase the cost of your sign.

Oddly, the customer insisted upon using the existing post for mounting the new replacement sign. This presented a problem for us in that the existing post measured 5-1/2" square. Our normal double sided sign measures 3". After the appropriate thickness of reinforced lumber was installed between the two panels, additional HDU strips were used to cover the edges of the sign resulting in a thickness of 5-1/2", or flush to the original post.
